The contact and connection



The year was 1990.   I was returning from Delhi by flight with a monk of the RamaKrishna Mission. A  journalist from Chile was there with us . He started
interviewing  the monk, as had been decided earlier.

Journalist - Dear Sir , in your last lecture, you  told about Jogajog ( contact ) &  Sanjog (connection ). It's really confusing. Can you explain it to me ?

The Monk smiled a little but apparently deviating from the question,  he asked the journalist:Are you from Chile ?
Journalist( J ) - Yeh...
Monk ( M ) - Who are there at home ?
The Journalist felt that the  Monk was trying to avoid answering his question since  this was a very personal and unwarranted question. Yet the  journalist  said:    "Mother has expired. Father is there. Three brothers and one sister. All are married..."
The Monk, a smile on his  face,   asked next: - "Do you talk to your father?"
Now the  journalist looked visibly annoyed...
The Monk  - "When did you talk to him last?" The
journalist supressing his annoyance said:  "May be a month back."
The Monk:  "Do you brothers and sisters meet often ? When did you last meet as a family together?"

At this point, I saw  sweat on the journalist's  fore head. I wondered who was taking whose interview. It seemed that the   Monk was taking the interview of the journalist.

With a sigh , the journalist said: "We met last at Christmas two  years  ago."
The Monk: " How many days did you all stay together ?"

The journalist ( wiping the sweat on his brow) : "Three days..."
Monk: "How much time did you  spend with your Father, sitting right  beside him ?"
I saw the journalist looking  perplexed and embarassed and scribbling something on a paper...
The Monk:  "Did you have breakfast or lunch or dinner together ? Did you ask how he was? Did you ask how his days are passing after your mother's death ?"

I saw the journalist's eyes sadden.

The Monk placed his hand on the journalist's hand and said: "don't be embrassed or upset or sad. I am sorry if I have hurt you unknowingly...
But this is basically the answer to your question about "contact and connection ( jogajog and Sanjog)".  You have 'contact'  with your father but you don't have 'connection' with him. You are not connected to him. Connection is between heart and heart... sitting together , sharing meals , caring for & hugging each other. Touch , shaking hands, having eye contact,  spending some time together...You  brothers and sisters have 'contact' with each  but you have no  'connection' with each other...."

The journalist wiped his eyes and said : "Thanks for teaching me a fine and unforgettable lesson"

This is the reality today.
Whether at home, in society and elsewhere everybody has lots and lots of contacts but there is no connection. No communication...   . Everybody is in a his or her own world.

Let's not be well "contacted" - let's be well "connected" ,  with each other ...... caring , sharing , touching , hugging , spending time together with all our near and dear ones, and other co-passengers in our life travels.

The 8 Monkeys

The 8 Monkeys

(This is reportedly based on an actual experiment conducted in the U.K.)

Put eight monkeys in a room. In the middle of the room is a ladder, leading to a bunch of bananas hanging from a hook on the ceiling.

Each time a monkey tries to climb the ladder, all the monkeys are sprayed with ice water, which makes them miserable. Soon enough, whenever a monkey attempts to climb the ladder, all of the other monkeys, not wanting to be sprayed, set upon him and beat him up. Soon, none of the eight monkeys ever attempts to climb the ladder.

One of the original monkeys is then removed, and a new monkey is put in the room. Seeing the bananas and the ladder, he wonders why none of the other monkeys are doing the obvious. But undaunted, he immediately begins to climb the ladder.

All the other monkeys fall upon him and beat him silly. He has no idea why.

However, he no longer attempts to climb the ladder.

A second original monkey is removed and replaced. The newcomer again attempts to climb the ladder, but all the other monkeys hammer the crap out of him.

This includes the previous new monkey, who, grateful that he's not on the receiving end this time, participates in the beating because all the other monkeys are doing it. However, he has no idea why he's attacking the new monkey.

One by one, all the original monkeys are replaced. Eight new monkeys are now in the room. None of them have ever been sprayed by ice water. None of them attempt to climb the ladder. All of them will enthusiastically beat up any new monkey who tries, without having any idea why.

And that is how  traditions, religions and systems get established and followed.

Think twice before following a tradition,religion or system blindly .. it wud make more sense if u get ur own understanding to it...

The COVID-19 pandemic has created a massive disruption in education across the nation and the globe. Among all the uncertainty about what comes next for education, there is growing certainty that we can't go back to the way things were. Is now the time to answer Why Schools Need to Change and come together to create better solutions for our young people?
There's a fall from ancient  150 years ago big difference right stay with me here's a car from today and here's a car from ancient 150 years ago the big difference right . This is a classroom of today here's a class we use 150 years ago. No wait that is shaped in it's really more than a century nothing has changed you claim to prepare students for the future but what evidence like bad I must ask you first do this for the future or the past I did a background check going to win the record show that you were made to train people to work in factories which explains why you put students in straight roles next to low 60 raise your hand if you want to speak for 8:00 hours a day to look at the. Make them compete to get in a letter which determines product quality. 

The factory model is outdated. But why is that so? Why does our nation so desperately need to change the way learning happens in schools? Is there more to next generation learning than innovation for innovation’s sake?

Diversity and Inclusion





Diversity and inclusion are topics that are very important and have had a lot of focus lately… Lately, until we all started to be locked down. Every country, every company has been trying to fight for themselves and suddenly, we all start to be selfish again…

Even though falling back on hold ‘habits’ might be understandable in some cases, it never is the answer to retreat, stay and work only with people we know, people who are like us…

So, for companies who are (re) thinking about their organization and how to adapt to the new normal, the need for diversity in the workplace is being felt now more than ever. To keep up the pace, companies ought to have adequate clarity on the skills they expect their talent pools to possess, especially in such situations as we face now. 


What does it mean to have a ‘diverse’ workforce?


When we talk about diversity, we often think first of women in the workplace. Research has shown that the increase of women in leadership is helping businesses to thrive in unprecedented ways. Women see things differently and have different strengths than men. Women have more prominently exhibited the intuitive abilities of persons who can reach out to others to resolve issues or reduce friction; in comparison to men. How do the traits of being multi-skilled, multi-tasking, problem solver, influencer or bringing people together, keeping energy levels up, maintaining a level-head, rank among the rest of the other professional traits? Can a company see value in these traits, that are more pronounced in women than in men?

Having a diverse workforce does not only mean having more women, especially in more senior roles. It means working with people that are different. Companies not only need people from different genders, but also with different backgrounds, different abilities, different status (married vs. single/divorced, with or without children), different ages, different personalities and if you have a global company, people from different nationalities (and languages), different cultures, different religions….

Having a diverse workforce means accepting differences, including people in discussions, in communications, in projects, etc. It means respecting others and their opinions. Of course, there will be disagreements once in a while, but who hasn’t got one? When two or more people disagree, they actually provide an opportunity to look for a workaround, another idea or solution. Inclusive companies are 1.7 times more likely to be innovation leaders in their market (Josh Bersin Research)

Why should you have employees as diverse as possible? What are the benefits?


According to the Boston Consulting Group, -  companies that have more diverse management teams have 19% higher revenue. Advantages are not only seen from the employer’s point of view, but also from the employees’. According to Fast Company, organizations with above-average gender diversity and levels of employee engagement outperform companies with below-average diversity and engagement by 46% to 58%.

Furthermore, we are now in a unique situation. There has never been a time before where 4 generations can work with each other! Boomers, GenX, Millennials and GenZ are currently on the job market. This is an opportunity for many companies to ensure they gather all points of view and meet customers’ needs, no matter their age.

Global companies or companies that work in different countries need to ensure they have employees representing these countries or cultures. Something obvious for a person in one country may not be so obvious for another person in another country. People have different backgrounds, different histories, different habits and therefore a product or a service that is very successful in a country may need to be customized in another to meet the customers’ needs (or daily habits, legal requirements, etc.)

If you intend to serve ‘everybody’, you also need to make sure your product(s) and/or service(s) can also be used by people with different abilities. If your workforce are all mentally and physically able, how will you know for sure that someone in a wheelchair for instance will be able to use that product or service? If you already have employees in a wheelchair, they will tell you if there is any challenge before you start implementing or even creating your product or service.






Finally, when you have a diverse workforce, it also means you’ll have different personalities, with different opinions and ideas. This will give you an opportunity to create new or complementary things, things you may not have thought of at the beginning. Hiring and working with people from different backgrounds and life experiences give you diverse perspectives and understanding of people’s needs.

What can you do as a company?


Companies will have to adapt to this new world we are stepping into. This evolutionary process has to be inclusive of skillful people from all sorts of backgrounds, genders, races, demographics and physical abilities. Doing so, organizations may face challenges in accepting D&I. Resistance, fear, aversion to change, politics, insecurity etc. will appear here and there. Nonetheless, the inherent fullness and variety will naturally bring out the best possible path for the company to recover out of the crisis.

-      Start with recruiting diverse people: if you are looking for a certain profile, keep an open mind. Maybe someone does not have the ‘perfect profile’ or comes from a different industry, but if that person is motivated and willing to learn, he/she will be doing the job you wanted him/her to do and will often exceed expectations

-      Mentor and support men AND women so that they can get promoted and climb the corporate ladder. Encourage coaching, reverse mentoring so that people can get additional roles and responsibilities based on the value they can provide and not because they ‘fit the profile’ of the current organization.

-      Empower people. Give them tools, training, opportunities so that they can demonstrate their potential.
-      Educate people in the workplace about different cultures. Share the importance of celebrating/observing auspicious cultural festivals, food, dress, and meaning behind certain behavior. The more people know about each other, the more open they become. Fear then diminishes. A greater awareness paves the way to healthier socialization in the workplace and personal/workplace relationships are enhanced.

Final thoughts


Looking forward and once you decide to include and keep the diversity numbers high, think about the steps you would be taking to ensure these individuals are welcomed, engaged, included, and not given a shadow treatment. Diversity and inclusion cannot be one-time activity and neither can they be on a quota basis. QUOTAS cannot and should not be used to automate D&I. Diversity and inclusion should be CULTURE. They should be a conscious decision supported by senior management, business relevance, and benefit.



Being a leader puts one under constant scrutiny for the legacy he/she is creating. The actions and decisions of leaders during the difficult times are more prone to criticism and judgment in the future. Would they be able to pass the tests of race, class, nationality, and marginalized groups? To be or not to be diverse and inclusive, that is the question.

Innovative Device to track COVID-19 Patients: Innovation Solution Lab (ISL)

                             


Countries around the world are implementing measures to slow the spread of the coronavirus, from
national quarantines to school closures. More than a third of the planet's population is under some form of restriction. The World Health Organization, which has officially declared the outbreak a pandemic, has called on "all countries to continue efforts that have been effective in limiting the number of cases and slowing the spread of the virus." The coronavirus pandemic has affected the usual functionality of government bodies. Law & Order has been modified keeping mind the current situation Pandemic. 

Many cities facing one of its worst-ever public health crises in recent history in the form of the COVID-19 the outbreak is considering drastic measures like complete stoppage of the local suburban train and bus services. Today, in this novel coronavirus situation, many people are undergoing mental disturbance & stress. Specifically talking about people who have been quarantined or isolated. For the life safety of people, government & health authorities are keeping people in Government Organized Isolation Wards or Quarantined Centers. But people there are feeling distressed and trying to move out. In order to monitor & track isolated & quarantined people, we have proposed a solution using the well-known technology concept of connectivity & communication.

My self Ashhar Ahmed & colleagues Vamsi KrishnaAkbar Ali, we came up with this solution to track & monitor patients & have developed the prototyping model of it. In this solution, there will be two devices. One Master Device & Other Slave Device. Master Device will have any wireless technology standard & GSM Module along with Micro Controller. We have used Bluetooth Technology as our Wireless Technology Standard. Slave Device will have a wireless technology standard, microcontroller & GPS Module installed in it. Now coming to the functionality part of it, the slave device will be installed with the patient. It can be formulated in the form of Wrist Watch/Band/Strip (With proper locking mechanism so that patient will not be able to remove it easily) having Bluetooth & GPS Technology. This slave device will always be with the patient. 

 

And Master Device having GSM & Bluetooth Module will be installed in isolation ward or
a quarantined room where the patient is being kept. So now there will be communication between master & slave devices. As the Patient goes anywhere away from the quarantined center or isolation ward, the communication between master & slave device will get disconnected. As a result, the master device will alert through a buzzer & emergency light along with an SMS to the admin via its GSM module. Once Admin receives an alert message then they can act accordingly. Also, Admin can track the location of the patient since the GPS Module is installed in the Slave Device of the patient. 

This is a proposed solution which can be iteration & upgraded to monitor & track the isolated & quarantined cases of Covid19. The proposed solution is to benefit the authorities taking care of Quarantine Centers or Isolation Wards. It has been reported that people under quarantine or isolation are moving here & there outside their quarantine Center/Isolation Ward Zone. And many are trying to escape from isolation/quarantine. So, it is becoming difficult to personally monitor each & every patient 24*7. This solution will virtually monitor the patient under quarantine. So, authorities will easily come to know which patient is trying to move out or trying to escape. And as slave device is equipped with GPS Technology & is locked with the Patient, so the Patient’s live GPS location can be tracked smoothly. It will help out to Monitor & track patients which will help a lot in densely populated countries.
